94 dodge intrepid tranmission problem i think

I have a 94 dodge intrepid and this problem has happened about 4 or 5 times. I will be driving along and get to a light and my car won't go when i press on the gas. I have to cut the car off and restart and everything is fine and then about a week or so later it does it again. I have taken it to a dodge dealer and at first they said it was a bad computer sensor and then 6 days after i get it back it does it again and i take it back to them and they now say my transmission needs and over haul. This car has 95,000 miles on it and has been maintained. It seems like maybe it could be something else, since it will go once i cut it off and restart and it acts just fine once i do that. Any thoughts or suggestions. I am going to try and get another opinion here locally.

try this, turn your key on/off 3xs ending in the off position. The check engine light will flash; if it flashes 3xs and then flashes another 4xs, that's a code 34. The last code you'll see is a code 55 which is an end of message code. Try that and see if there are any trouble codes stored in memory.
