ALERT! 2005 Tacoma PreRunner Bed misalignment

This is my first post and want to alert you to something that you might have not noticed if you own one. (Mine is a TRD off road PKG. access cab pre-runner May 2005 mfg.)

If you look at the width of the bed and the width of the cab, (where they meet) you will see that the bed is about 1/2" less in width! Mine was ok on the driver's side and 1/2" in from the cab's panel face. Very noticeable but not expected for your 26K since this can't be right? wrong

I thought mine was the only one untill I went down to the dealers, same thing only they vary in assembly.

The composite bed (I think) was made too narrow and the resulting distance available to attach the quarter panels hasn't enough range... hence the width issue.(there bolted to and seperate form each other)

Measuring the inside bed width (Where the tie down's attach) front and back, shows them to be the same dim.

That means one thing- The tail gate is too short in width to allow an equal total adjustment front and back of the bed....... You could maybe adjust the quarter to fit the cab width, but the angle is still there..but you can't pull the rear quarter because of the tailgate!.!

I have talked to Toyota customer support and they never heard of this before!! figures
Anyway they are contacting my dealer for a fix. I can't see a totally aceptable fix unless they redesign a wider bed and new tailgate

Check yours! Look at the cab side panels and the bed panels- They should be on the same plane!

Great trucks but this is a design flaw IMO

Nobody yet, I'm seeing it on just about every one I see. Either in a parking lot or at dealers.
