Problems starting....'95 sport

OK...I've been having problems starting my '95 FE sport.

Insert key, get lights and radio and all that. Engine won't turn over.

Originally, I thought it was the starter. Whacking it doesn't help the problem and the starter was replaced about 3 months ago. A friend was able to get it to start last night by depressing the brake, then running through the gears. Once it was back in park it started right up! He said something about it being the 'safety switch'.

I noticed on here there was a post about a neutral safety/back up switch. Could that be what is causing the problem? Is it difficult to replace?

Thanks!

it's easy to replaced - mounts on the side of the trans - try holding the key in start and shifting at the same time - if it goes that's the problem
