Doors unlocking in Park
Hi all,
'94 Regal Custom 3.8 I have one remaining problem with the door locks. They close automatically when shifting into Drive, but they do not unlock when shifting into Park (as they should). I checked the 20A fuse underneath the dashboard (according to the manual, removing that one prevents auto unlocking) but it's good and in place. So should replacing the chime module cure this, and if so, what's the dealer price for that item in the U.S. ? Thanks, Roy |

Re: Doors unlocking in Park
I can't recall the fancy name for the part, but it's in the steering column and it senses when the shifter is in park. Shift interlock or something.

Re: Doors unlocking in Park
Thanks.
Wonder why they had to put it in the steering column when the shifter is in between the seats. I had opened the console between the seats already and there's nothing there except the shifter and wiring for the 2 light bulbs. I read in another posting here that the locking of the doors when shifting to R or D was done in the chime module, so I figured that unlocking was too. Since the steering wheel column is one part, I guess the steering wheel has to come of, right ? Roy |

Re: Doors unlocking in Park
Whoa, I forgot we were talking about a regal, and I forgot the shifter is between the seats. The interlkock thing would be with the shifter in that case.
The park avenue is a column shift, which my mind automatically defaulted to when I replied, sorry about that!

Re: Doors unlocking in Park
I replaced my remote reciever in my 93 Buick Regal Custom and it started unlocking in park again. The only thing I could get it to do was lock in the drive possition before I replaced it.
That is a dealer Item and is located on the back shelf on the passenger side. You can reprogram your remote's by shorting out the wire that is located in the trunk by the antena motor. Short the wire then push a button and hold it down on the remote. Keep the wire shorted until all remotes are programmed. You can get the module for around 200 at the dealer. |
