1994 Explorer Engine Code ?
Check Engine light came on, put on my handheld code reader, came up with code 214 Cylinder Identification Circuit Failure. What part is this and is it replacable? Thanks in advance.

This is some of the stuff I found on the code hope this helps some.
A DTC 214 on your car equals Cylinder Identification Circuit (CID) failure, the Camshaft Position Sensor and/or it's associated wiring. Experience dictates that the sensor is usually good for about 125k miles and then needs to be replaced The cylinder identification signal is generated by the camshaft sensor and is used by the ignition module to synchronize the ignition coils, telling them when fo fire http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...3d80156445.jsp provides some diagnostics for the sensor. The problem lies @ the camshaft sensor, the ignition module, or a remote possibility the ECM. It is really hard to tell if the absolute voltages from the sensor to the ignition module are high enough since the signal is actually a voltage pulses thus the trouble shooting guides give you a voltage range and averages. |
