Re: Suspension work
Dude, this si the best advice you are ever going to get about suspension...don't buy any of those.
Seriously, susupension effects you cars handling, you cars handling directly effects your life, and could cause you death, now do you want to cheap out on that? Save some money, hell ride the stock set up for a year if you have to, but save some money at least $800 and get a good set up.

Re: Suspension work
totally agree. i used to want coilovers for a while but decided to wait longer and get a full coilover system(omnipower for now).best slipon coilovers out there are ground controls without a dought. if u want to go cheaper mayb some omnipower coilovers might do it. if u cant afford new struts with that dont work on suspension for now and keep saving up. if ur goan lower ur car do it right the first time and u wont have any regrets
oh and btw- stay away from ebay brand shit for suspension. might be good enough for intakes but not suspenison. but there are some good deals on name brand stuff on ebay

Re: Re: Suspension work
see i dont know... when you lower your car, your lowering your center of gravity, which is going to make it handle better... your struts are gonna make it ride nicer, as in going over bumbs and stuff... unless your doing some hard core racing, then i think a decent, 2-3 hundred dollar set up is fine. ive been in cars that had 100 dollars springs on it and it was fine... no it wasnt for racing... but daily driving...
i think that buying better stuff is a better idea, but if you can only spend 200 dollars then you can only spend 200 dollars... i wouldnt buy off ebay either... and if your gonna race then get good shit... but if its just a daily driver, not retarded driver car... then a set of springs or coilovers should be fine... just my

Re: Suspension work
a lower center of gravity does not mean u have better handling. a car that handles is a car that distributes weight corectly to the tires.shocks are not for confort only. they are there to stop the spring from bouncing(compressing in and out constantly until it has run out of energy). didnt anyone take physics in high school?

Re: Suspension work
then just get springs not coilovers. ull retain a pretty good ride quality with a permanet drop. but remember if u drop more than 2 inches u might have to get new struts after a while. tein stech eibach pro kit should be good but they dont have that great of drop(1.75 i belive)

yes buy some springs. get at least 1.5 inch or you wont be happy about the look. i have 1.75 drop and stock shocks and the ride is acceptable for now. do not buy those shit ass coil sleeves. youre asking for trouble.

I agree, on a Honda I would never go bigger than a 16" wheel. My brother got the Tein s-tech with 15" wheels and it looked great. With 16's it would look good too. Also, get springs not coilovers. Some Eibachs would do the trick and keep the car riding nice. I actually have some Eibach Sportlines for an eg civic that I had for about a year. I will sell them for like $70 plus shipping, if your car is an eg.
Sorry I feel stupid. Your car is an eg. Let me know if you want to consider my springs. I took them off because I got stiffer racing springs for racing auto-x. |

Re: Suspension work
If you want to get some coilovers one of the best out there is ECP S1 . Tein is there manufacture, so they are built to there specs. If the kid wants coilovers let him get them. If he is going to mess up his car thats his problem. Dont talk him out of what he wants to do. lol . You can get S1's for 100 shiped. If you want to know how to get them let me know and i will give you the contact info.

As has been said, do not go cheap on suspension. If you don't have enough momey to get a good sert of coilovers, of some good sleeves liek GC, then eitehr save up your money or get some decent springs. Eibach and H & R are pretty good, and can both be had for under $200. You'll likely need new shocks eventually, especially with a 2" drop. The H & R sport springs should drop your car 1.75" front and 1.5" rear...which is within spec on the Tokico HP shocks (blues). This means Tokico says in's not an extreme drop, so the lifetime warrenty will be valid on a 92-95 civic dropped to that height (with thsoe springs). It's not the greatest set-up, especially if you've swapped the motor you'll want stiffer springs, but it's pretty decent for a stock motor. It's certianly better, than those cheap ass coilovers you listed. The springs I've seen for $150 before, and the shocks for $69 per shock. If you need a camber kit, tack on a little $$ for a front camber kit, and do the washer trick in the rear. There you go, a "bugdet" lowering set-up. Not the greatest, but it should work for your needs, plus it's a darn site better than those cheap coilovers you listed. You really do't have much of a need for coilovers if all you want it for it looks, and to just drive from, point A to B. If you can't afford a good set of coilovers, then I suggest sticking with shocks and springs as I mentioned above. It's fairly affordable.
