Painting stock brake calipers...

And I'm doin em RED (!) with a G2 caliper paint kit. I read an old post with people saying it's taboo to paint the stock calipers a bright color because you're drawing attention to a crappy part of the vehicle. IDK bout u, but doesn't it seem stupid to put huge rotors on such a light car anyways?

Oh, btw, does anyone have pics of red stock calipers?

Well its your car, but the reason for larger calipers and rotors is to stop the car better. on a light car this will have even greater effect. "performance" especially safety, is not stupid. Even with aftermarket open design wheels, your brakes wont really look that great painted. Why not do two things at once and get better brakes that also look good?

If you do get better brakes get slotted and not cross drilled. While cross drilled look good and perform better they warp faster.

its not that they warp faster, or warp at all. they tend to be weaker and may crack. warping is usually caused by over torquing the lugs or putting cold water on them when they are hot.

Wow, so it's a stupid idea to upgrade the number one safety feature on your vehicle, but a good idea to paint the stock parts? Did you take the short bus to "school"

How did you know?? I wore headgear too. Mom says im special. :-)

Seriously tho, 150 for rotors just seems like a bit of a waste on a civic unless you are doing some serious racing while 30 for paint seems sensible esp if u want a nice looking car. Just my 2 cent.

Yea, that paint is really going to help if you need to slam on your brakes because some dink pulled out in front of you, only to find out that they are starting to show fade because you've been driving in traffic all day. I know, when your repainting your front end, you can color match you great looking calipers.

It's not stupid to upgrade your brakes at all, and it's a misconseption to thin so. Granted, dropping $3000 on the Brembo Gran Turismo kit is overkill unless you do heavy racing or show the car, but upgrading brakes it not dumb. You can still get upgraded big brakes fro far less than brembo. You can get Wilwood 4 pot big brakes for around $650-700 and SSBC big brakes for around $700-750. Even Bear big brakes shound't run much above $1200-1500 (could be less, dpends on the system you get)

True, you could argue you don't need those big brakes on the steet, though they wll help you stop faster, which is the whole goal of brakes. If thats still too much money (understandable), powerslot slotted rotors and metal master pads will greatly help you on the street, and many autocrosser use such a set-up. It's at a much more reasonable price too ($69 per rotor, $39 for the pads). Even if you feel more is not needed, powrstol rotors and metal master pads are definatly a goood investment, and $180 is FAR from too mch to inprove safety. Being able to stop quicker never hurts.

If you think it's a waste to spend even that much on brakes, then I'm sorry. If you put that on your car, you WILL noitce a difference, the car WILL stop better. Since when is $180 to MUCH improved braking dumb. At if you STILL need painted calipers, thats okay, go ahead and paint the stock calipers, after all, your still uses the stock caliper; you upgraded the pads and the rotors...and upgrqading these parts DOES make a noticable difference on the street.

...jcrx...havn't seen you in awhile, it's good to see you back again!!!
