99 SE with New Engine
I'm so happy. I just got my car back with that brand new engine. It's really really really quiet. I can hardly even tell when it's cranked. I just have a quick question for you guys.
The old engine ran at about 200-204 degrees, but this one is running around 205-209. I was wondering if that is too hot and if it is what do i need to do to get it cooled off properly. (I don;t want to void my 50,000 warranty). I would call the shop and ask them, but its closed right now so i'd just like your opinion. It's a 3.4L v6 99SE. |

Re: 99 SE with New Engine
The temp. range is fine, hp, just do the needed break-in period, and watch your levels.

Re: 99 SE with New Engine
A four or five degree temp. difference should not be problem. In fact it could be due to the newer parts having more friction. Once the engine is broken in and the parts are no longer as tight then the temperature will probably drop down to where it was before.

Up to you, but I've always done an oil and filter change after the first 1K miles, to get the shavings out of the system.

Re: 99 SE with New Engine
yeah im goin to get the oil changed at 500 miles like my warranty states, and im going to flush my radiator when i do that because i need to but the orange coolant back in it.
On 95 when it messed up we checked the coolant and it all came out, so i had to put the green kind in. (It was a sunday, no where close was open). SO i figure that a flush would be needed as well. |

The thermostat does not come on until 195 degrees
and the fans don't come on unitil 212 degrees. Throw in the fact the fact that it is July and your car sounds like it is doing fine. If you run the AC the cooling fans will automatically kick in.
Just out of curiousity, how much did the new engine cost you? |

It was $3831.25. That included the engine, install, cleaning the intake, replacing about 4 sensors (oxygen, crank, oil), cleaning somethign to do with the gas(I'm not much of a car person lol), and a few other things.
I think the only reason that I even bothered asking you guys about the temp was due to the fact that the needle went past half way, and I had never seen that on any car and it worried me. But thanks to all of you for reassuring me that it is ok. I do greatly appreciate it. |
