2005 Silvy, Bose system replacement

I would like to tear out that bose system and put something better in. Although it seems from reading some of the other posts on this site and reading about how GM systems are wired... I may have a wiring nightmare ahead of me. When I install a system, which I usually do myself, I would prefer not to cut or splice any wires. I've looked at some of the products at www.pac-audio.com. I guess I'll need a door chime module, Onstar module, steering wheel control module.. which would require me to get an alpine deck, which is fine, I need something that'll use XM. I guess I'm just wondering, would it be possible to use the factory wiring to get a speaker lead from the deck unit straight to the doors and effectively bypass the bose amp? Also looking for any advice regarding the general install, any issues ran into or any tidbits of info that are important.

It seems tho some of the pac audio modules on thier site are only for 2004 silvys as of yet. I might be SOL for now. Cheers, lovin my new chevy!

NE wayz. Heres a pic fer yall

I'm thinkin I may just leave it and add a single or maybe even two 10" subs under the rear seat. I'm so used to my car which had an awesome system in it. Just need a little punch and I can prolly tweak that bose system to sound pretty good. That route will be a lot cheaper I guess.

yeah you might be better off that way -- from what i hear the bose system is pretty good in the first place isnt it? it's connected to all those other aspects of the vehicle so it would be a big headache to reroute everything, but hey its your call. i have some replacement clarions and a deck and it prob doesnt sound as good as the bose.

I agree, it just doesn't get up there, I've turned it up all the way and was still cravin more. Thats cool tho, u can max it out, nothin will blow. It can get pretty bright if you turn the bass down. I guess I'm just an audiophile. hee hee. The bose system was just there, didn't really ask for it, I wanted the LT package, it just so happens to come with it, If i had a choice, i would've opted it out because I like to set up my own systems anyways.

I guess I'll just get subs, Looking at these audiobahns

With this box

Thinkin, I might have to actually turn these down. LOL

Re: 2005 Silvy, Bose system replacement

i left all the factory wiers in my truck and just replaces the speakers in the doors, along with a new head unit. I just ran additional stuff for my subs and amp. Sounds pretty good. Thats a nice box, i built my myself, the only copmplaint i have is that i made the tray for the amp too small to add something bigger, and no air gets to it. but this is how it looks,

Thats pretty sweet. Nice work there. My problem is that the deck in mine uses a data bus to communicate with and amp thats in the center console, and a few other things are hooked into the head unit, like onstar and the door chime. The speakers in the doors are hooked to that amp. If I were to replace it I would have to get all sorts of aftermarket modules and dohickies to make it work, even then it could make it difficult for a technician to work on the electrical system since there are foreign modules installed. So now I have to find something that'll give me a couple rca outs from the original head unit. I think pac audio has something. I have yet to find a place that sells it tho. Ya know how Internet Exploder rams windows in the rear end, yeah well its the same with that bose system. hahaa.
