Tired of riding the wave machine... '98 LeSabre Limited. I need to change the struts. Any reccomendations for a more controlled ride than stock? Am taking this car to Germany when I PCS. Would like to disable the 109 governor. How can I do this?

Acutally, my 92 has the "Dynaride" emblem on the dashboard but, has standard struts in the rear (no leveling system). I think I had Monroe struts installed. Typically, unless your doing the replacement yourself, you will just have to call around to the repair shops and see what brand replacement strut they use. By the way, the rubber boots on the new rear struts ripped and now expose the piston and seal (not good). The only way to fix this is to replace the strut however, they will only warranty the strut itself not the labor and necessary rear end alignment charges.
If your serious about taking your LeSabre to Germany (Kinda like driving a Cadillac in the Indy 500), the speed limiter was installed for a reason. So your going to want to beef up the suspension and change over to a set of higher speed rated tires. |

Here are the Monroe part numbers for your car. I would recommend the Reflex front and rear and if you want air ride Reflex in the rear, just install AK29 kit with the struts in the rear.
Question concerning your speed limiter, it is programmed in the PCM. You have to have a programmer delete it for you. What I have is...
A '98 LeSabre Custom with the "dynaride" thing on the dash. This thing rides like little boat on big waves at anything under about 55-60. After that it seems okay, soft but not terrible. What is the "dynaride"? Is it some sort of auto suspension?

Changing the tires isn't a problem... that's going to be done anyway. 109 isn't too bad, but is a tad slow for autobahn. Last time I was stationed there, the average seemed to be about 170-180 klicks. That's only 110-115, but I wouldn't have the ability to go any faster for passing. I know the 3.8 is enough engine. I can change the tires to a high speed rating. I just want a sportier (read as "harder") ride out of it if possible.

I've decided to replace the front and rear struts with KYB high pressure gas struts but according to the KYB catalog you have to deactivate the air leveling system. No instructions come with the strut on how to do this and was wondering if any here are aware of the method to deactivate the air leveling system. I believe the GR-2 should be stiff enough to offset the loss of the air leveling.

Hello Patrick & welcome to AF! It would be better to start a new thread with your question, rather than resurrect a two-year old thread.
Please Read: Posting in Closed or Outdated Threads - LeSabre BTW, to answer your question, just pull the fuse to the ALC system to disable it, if that is what you want to do.
