GT and Z24

I have a quick question. I am looking for performance enhancing chips etc. I just need one thing for reference. I have a 2001 Chevy Cavalier with the GT letters and it is the aftermarket car. Is the GT the same thing as the Z24 or are they 2 different cars? If so, can I use the same chips/mods on the GT I have that people would use on the Z24?

Re: GT and Z24

A Cavalier GT? Sounds like dealer rice, and chances are you've got a 2.2. So no, not the same car. Not the same chip. Oh ya, its pointless to chip a Cav. Too much cost + not very much result = "Performance" chips for cavs.

Actually it is a 2.2 Liter 4 Cylinder multi-pt Fuel Injector. I think the GT letters might of just been added on. It dosn't say it is a GT on the sheet thou or anything. It also came with a bodykit but i'm going to have to replace it cause it's obvious if you look closely enough that it was never properly fit for the car. I took some pictures of it within the last few minutes I will have them up in a second.

In the meantime, i'm looking for ways to improve my cavalier and make it better, not only on performance, but other aspects as well. I'm already looking at a stereo and speakers, etc. etc. I want more engine-type things and better ways to do it.

I also noticied I have fog-lights in the body kit mesh; but yet, I have no way of turning them on, haha. It's almost like they were put there for looks. Is their a way to make it so they turn on or do I have to do some work and install a way to turn them on?

Any help would be appreciated. I am looking to learn alot about my car. I want to know alot about my cavalier, for it is a very well-kept/nice car.

Honestly, I know enough about cars to get me by, but I want to learn alot more about how they work and how to do work on them. I just recently had an accident with it and had to get a whole new passenger door and panel. I tried taking the panel off, but it was a no-go, it would of required way to much work. I got the panel off enough and fixed it so the door would at least open and close somewhat. I effiently got it fully fixed and it costed around $1700. I would love to learn how to fix up cars on my own without ruining them for future reference.

(If you look at my pics you will see the difference in the color of my passenger side that it was all replace cause the back panel, obviously, faded)

Here are the pics. Also look at the bad rusting in the engine. Anyway to replace that or is it a no-go? Will it last/perform better with the rust being on there?

It also has the GT logo many other places such as in the seats in the car. Are you trying to say there is no such thing as a Cavalier GT car? Cause whoever did these mods to the car made it look VERY impressive!

I'm also looking for the after-market rims which are supposed to be on there. Where is a good place to get them? Also, people keep calling it an after-market car, what makes it an after-market car?

Re: GT and Z24

Base model cavalier, that's all it is. The dealer added the "GT" and what looks to be an aftermarket body kit.

"GT" is NOT something made by GM, only a dealer rice package. NOT a performance package, only a base model.

And to answer your question, don't bother "chip"ing that car, you have to re-flash OBDII cars, not chip them. Besides, even then the gains are minimal.

Oh yeah...and a personal request...don't call your car a Cavalier GT, it's a base model cavalier, that's it.

It does appear to be the base model. There are actually a lot of dealers that do the GT Mods, I've seen quite a few in the Boston area, but it's not a factory mod by GM. As far as rims go, I have a 99 cavy and I ended up getting the slotted 5 spoke rims that the current cavy's get and they look sweet on these model's. You can also get them for relatively inexpensive on ebay. The stock rims/ tires you have should be P195/ 65R15, the new LS Sport rims are P205/ 55R16. There is a significant difference in cornering in my opinon with these wheels. A lot of these other guys can fill you in on a lot of other things as I've learned a ton from reading these boards.

Actually that body kit looks pretty good.

Does anyone know if the 2003-05 Cavy Z24's/Sunfire GT's have the 2.4 or the ecotec?

Re: GT and Z24

No such thing as a 02 1/2+ Z24 (unless you're canadian). From 02 1/2 and up it's all ecotec.
96-02 = 2.4 Twin Cam
95 = 2.3 Quad 4
90-94 = 3.1 V6
pre 1990 = 2.8 V6

02 1/2 LS Sports and 03+ = Ecotec.

Yeah I'm Canadian and I've seen 2003+ Cavalier Z24's and Sunfire GT's. So all 2003+ models have the same 140hp/150lb-ft engine, right? Why did they do away with the 2.4 engine?
