Question High gas pressure!!! Please help!!

I just purchased my very first Jeep It is a 1994 Jeep Cherokee Country. I was driving home and the low fuel light came on so I pulled into the gas station. I went to take the gas cap off and there seemed to be a lot of pressure so much that the cap shot off and hit me in the stomach! I filled up and drove home and removed the gas cap again. This time with a full tank....bad idea! Gas came squirting out all over! I bought a new gas cap and this didn't help the problem. I've been searching the forums all day with no luck. What could be causing this??

Too much pressure means the tank is not venting to the charcoal cannister properly. Search on the web for "jeep cherokee evaporative emission system" and check out the areas and components for testing. Could be a pinched line too.

Yep it was the fuel vent pipe. Took it off and it was rusted shut and had to be replaced. Now moving on to the next problem....this poor Jeep was neglected it needs a lot of TLC. Will post again if we run across anything we're not sure how to deal with. Thanks.
