A/C Problem...
Well, Ill start off by saying I have the problem with my RPMs dropping when I idle. The car just about stalls but then the RPMs hop back up. I deal with this problem, but now I think I have a bigger one.
Heres the story: Im off to my GFs house, A/C is on and Im goin about 80ish, and for no reason at all, the A/C stops working. So I think oh well, its just out of freeon. I think Im wrong about this too. So as Im leaving tonight, the car isnt warmed up anymore and I start it, but I hear a squeeking noise. Its not a constant noise, just kind of like 3 squeeks every second or 2. I usually get this sound when I start my car in the morning but not this loud. So I try the A/C when Im driving about 20mph and it was cold for like a minute about. Then it shuts off and is just blowing outside air. So as the A/C is on, I hear clicking noises, about 2 every 3 or 4 seconds, and every time the engine clicks, the RPMs drop just a little bit, like Im idleing. This has never happened before. So after the car is warmed up and Im sitting at a stop light, I try the A/C again, still no cold air, but now the car doesnt drop in RPMs when Im idleing nor while Im driving slow. Hopefully I described everything good enough so you guys know what this problem is. I need to stop by my mechanic and if the compressor is broken....Im taking it out along with everything else A/C related to get a nice little weight reduction. Also, it doesnt do it if I turn up the A/C and put the heat on all the way.

lol you are going to hate hearing this...that just happened to me about 2-3 weeks ago but its your a/c compressor. the squeeling is the belt about to go out and the ticking(which will get ridiculously worse) is the sound of the clutch in the compressor shaking around. Eventually you are gona have to either cut the belt(which is what I did) or get it replaced, at a jiffy lube or mobile(etc) you are lookin around 2 grand. at a local shop or doing it yourself you are looking around 700-1000. try to regulate your a/c use.

Re: A/C Problem...
Is it possible to completely take it out and run the car without an A/C compressor?

well you dont have to take out the compressor...just cut the belt eventually. If u cut the belt your car will run fine, Im not sure though if you take the whole unit out

Re: A/C Problem...
yes the car runs perfectly fine without the ac compressor. i took one off for a guy while we were waiting for his other one to be shipped. i just capped off the lines and he's been driving it for about 2 months.

Re: A/C Problem...
Well, just stopped by the mechanic, the compressor is shot. Is there a faq on taking out the compressor or should I just take it out along with all the lines or what?

I would just cut the belt incase you ever plan to fix the a/c in your car.
You should be able to remove the compressor without any problems. The only thing you might run into is if there are any brackets attached to the compressor. You can also remove the condensor, drier, lines, and evaperator. That will save you at least... 15 pounds. Seems like a lot of work for 15 lbs.

Re: A/C Problem...
for me the compressor wasn't very hard to get off, but it was a bitch to get out of the area where it was at. i had to pull it out through the top right next to the intake manifold.
