2000 Windstar #6 fuse blows immediately

Hi All,

Our 2000 windstar just today blew the #6 fuse, thus radio, keyless entry and Right side sliding door no longer work. I put a new 15a fuse in an it immediately blew. I tried disconnecting the battery, putting in a new fuse, then reconnecting the battery but same result...blown fuse. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you very much,

Greg

I'm having the same issue. I only have a radio (replaced about a year ago) and no other features that would be on the fuse. The first time it happened was when went over a bump, bam, the radio died. When got home, found #6 fuse burned out. Replaced it and all was well. Next day, hit a bump, bam, it died again. (Neither of these were sharp bumps, equivalent of an uneven road). Get home and the new fuse was burned out too. Grrr, so replaced it again, after all, maybe it was a bad fuse. So start the van to test it and no radio. Shut off and pull #6 and sure enough it's blown again. I've stuck another fuse in there, but who knows?
Using a stardard 15amp fuse. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, only have 2 more fuse left... ;P

Re: 2000 Windstar #6 fuse blows immediately

Hey oxender,

After about 6 hours of trouble shooting, we traced the problem to the radio. I bought the radio removal tool and immediately found the problem...coins in the radio. The radio sounded like a piggy bank when we first shook it hear if something had come loose. I guess what had happened was that a coin finally made its way onto some keys points on the PCboard and shorted the system. From the sounds of your problem, it could definitely be caused by foreign objects placed in the radio unit by kids....just like my problem.

I took the radio apart using allen keys (i did not have a torx wrench)...removed the coins, replaced the fuse and everything is back to perfect.

Good luck.
