ABS and Traction Control Lights

i have a '98 grand prix GT, and my ABS light and traction control lights have both recently come on about 5 minutes into driving. I'm trying to avoid taking it in to get a 30 dollar inspection to find out what's wrong. Needless to say i know very little about cars. Obviously it has something to do with the brakes, but i've gotten both sets of brakes fixed within the last few months. Could this be an electrical problem?

Sounds like your hub assembly-speed senser have gone bad in one of your wheels. I had the same prob last year.

I agree, i had that problem a while ago, and it turned out that , i believe it was the wheel speed sensor, had just been like cut or broken some how, so i just soldered the wires back together and now it works, except for the fact that i got rear ended by a semi, so i cant really drive it....

If the senser is bad and cannot be repaired the whole hub assembly-speed senser has to be replaced. It's about a 500.00 job if the dealership does the repair work. If you can do it yourself or know someone who can you'll spend less of course

If your abs light is still on then you just don't have anti lock brakes. However, you still have brakes they will just lock up if you have to brake hard enough

I had the same problem with my car (99 GT), but i noticed it when i test drove the car, so the dealer fixed it. In my case, they had to replace the bearings. Dunno if thats what yours is, but just an idea. I dont know much about cars either, I'm just letting you know what mine was when those lights were on.
