general maintenance + manual

i have a few questions...im just getting into my car...and i want to do some general maintenance..to get me started so i can learn more about everything on my car...k, so my car is a 98 dx...with 107k miles on it...so im thinking by now, there should be a decent amount of things that should be done...can anyone just list some stuff off?

also, i need to get a manual for my car...and ive heard haynes isnt very detailed...so i was gonna go with helms...but i have no idea which one to get off their website...since there are so many:
http://www.helminc.com/helm/Result.a...DLQ17PAFUAFQJD
...i mean i want something detailed, that will help me out a lot...so would i go with this one:
http://www.helminc.com/helm/product2...DLQ17PAFUAFQJD
or this one?:
http://www.helminc.com/helm/product2...DLQ17PAFUAFQJD
or what..

thanks in advance for any help

Re: general maintenance + manual

The only difference between those 2 is that one covers '00 and the other doesn't. Personally I'd buy the one with the '00 info for the extra few dollars. And I'd also download one to look at while you're on the computer: http://www.digitalsin.net/users/hond...6-98_civic.pdf

Re: general maintenance + manual

I'm not sure of the size of the file, so that might be an issue. But you can download it for sure.
When it loads up there should be a toolbar for Acrobat. The first Icon should be the Disk so you can save it.

Re: general maintenance + manual

timing belt, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, oil filter/oil change (if not done already), check the other fluids... just basic stuff, not too expensive (although the timing belt is a day-long job).

Re: general maintenance + manual

actually the t-belt and water pump is only about a 3 hour flat rate job...and u can definately beat the book time on that one buy atleast and hour or more, but Plugs/wires/cap/rotor/airfilter/fuel filter/oil change/coolant flush/water pump & tbelt if it never got changed before...not too difficult...all in a days job

Re: general maintenance + manual

ugh, you got my hopes up...thought someone was answering my question..haha

--umm so you just need new piping?
if so...you could just try and find someone you know that knows how to weld...and have them fix it
i got an aftermarket muffler, and i was gonna have 2.5" piping from the cat back...the piping and install was gonna cost around 140...but i ended up just having a friend weld the muffler on to the stock piping for now.

Yes, pictures & directions. Factory manuals cover every thing from spec's to maintenance to detailed wiring information. If you plan on doing work on your own car it should be the first thing you buy.
