Question A/C Evacuation - Hooked up to Identifier... question on results.

As it is 94 degrees outside and the humidity make it into the triple digits, I decided to hook my A/C up to an identifier today. The results are suprising.

62% R134a
22% R-12
16% HC (hydrocarbon)

My question(s) is... Do you think places will evacuate this out? Most places charge anywhere from 60$ to 70$ but does that apply in this case?

They usually would do it for about 10$-15$ on a '91 'cause lets face it, r-12 isn't cheap and any they recover is money in their pocket. Help and advice would be appreciated.

Re: A/C Evacuation - Hooked up to Identifier... question on results.

hahaa after calling a few places all they could say was "wow...damn".

Some place said it'd take 200$ per pound but I don't understand what the hell they are talking about. Another said they can suck out the R-12 and R134a ... then another said they can't do it all because it might contaminate their system. Any advice would be appreciated at this point. Thanks

what they are probably refering to is how much it would be to recharge the system after the evacuate it. It cant be "legally" re-charged with r-12 and that being the case they have to change out a lot of the components to make the conversion. I've never heard of being able to evacuate out just a certain type of gas. Its usully all or nothing unless there is a meathod that Im not familiar with.

No sense in asking here. Only the people that might ACTUALLY do the job can tell you for sure. Did you hear that WHOOSH? It's more money being sucked out of your wallet. To bad you wasted all that money on Ebay! Call around like you've been doing to get the best price but be decent and tell them what you've pumped into it already so that they can make a decision on whether or not they want to evacuate the system into their tank. As you've found out, some might not care about mixing the two refrigerants and others will. Good luck and I do hope you get it fixed soon.
