Question Head Job

Does any one know what the average cost for a job to replace the heads on my grand prix would be? i really need to get this car up and running so the sooner I know how much to save the better.

Re: Head Job

It depends on the amount of work that the heads need to recondition them. If I may ask why do you need new heads on your car? If you can give better details I can give you a better estimate on the cost.

Re: Re: Head Job

Well the intake gaskets went bad and replaced those. The car still overheats and the oil is like chocolate milk. My dad had the heads replaced about 3 yrs ago.the head bolts and everything else was replaced also. it's a 3.1 v6 year 94.

Re: Head Job

I doubt that the heads themselves are bad, it sounds like you have another leak in the intake manifold gasket. Most generally you will only get water in the oil in large quantities from and intake manifold gasket leak or a cracked block. Take the car to a shop and have them do a compression test to see if there are any leaks in the head gaskets. If they check out OK then have the intake manifold gaskets replaced again. If you don't go to a dealer and find a good shop they will probably charge you between $500 and $600 to replace the intake manifold gaskets. If they find problems with the head gaskets probably about $500 to $600 more. If this car has very high mileage you may want to consider replacing the engine itself with a remanufactured one or one from a wrecking yard. The cost of a used engine and having it installed would only be about $800 more or around $2000 total. Given the fact that the oil looks like chocolate milk you are probably looking at replacing the bearings soon anyway. Hope this helps you decide what to do. Good Luck!
