could you guys critique the photos of my car?

i took these at kmart the other day(lol). i was a bit bored. i used to be into photography a few years back, got the old camera out(pentax zx50 or something along those lines, i forget the letters int he name lol) with a 28-80 f/2.8 sigma lens. let me know what you think of them in terms of quality, artisticness, angles, and just what you think of them...

thanks!

I'd try shooting about an hour before sundown, you'll get better lighting then.

Pretty cool, but try get a background that's less "busy".

A shot I love (learned from Suislide) is a front 3 quarter, with the camera at an angle, eg:

(not as much of an angle in this one)

Re: could you guys critique the photos of my car?

Don't catch yourself in the picture! I can see you squatting in the bumper shot. It just ruins it! JK it's not that bad, but it is something I try to avoid.

I second the "find a better background" business, sure you have a shiny pretty car, but those vans in your 1/4 panel aren't very pretty.

Also, next time you set out to do a photoshoot, esp with a car like this, take off the front license plate. It's an eyesore. Or, if you don't want to pull the whole assembly off, pick up some nice Bowtie or Camaro plates instead.

When you're taking a pic of the car "opened up," try not to dead end the door, it looks funny. Get your angle lined up to where you can see part of the door panel; if the car is opened up, you might as well see it all. If you had just sidestepped once to the right, it would have turned out much better. IMHO.

In the last shot, don't do it from a lower angle; then, the underside of the hood dominates the shot and well, it's not very pretty either.

Hope this helps a little!

Liked it alot but man try to get some different shots when you're in a lone area which a parkinglot isnt.

Something maybe like this, but other photo guys if im wrong, then critique away!

Not trying to steal the thread but can you guys comment a bit on my pics as well?

Rally: With the first one, try zoom in on the Jeep a bit more, so it takes up about 2/3rds of the screen. It gives a nice perspective on the car itself and lets us see some of the background as well. Where is that anyway? It's gorgeous.

Yeah that first pic is the only one I had a problem with, I was really far away when I was taking the pic and well I was in a hurry, where it's at? Not sure! Its in Nevada, VERY close to California, past the city of Reno on highway 93, like on the most top left of Nevada, we were passing by when my bro decided to stop and take some pics cause it looked nice..

nice, i agree, just get closer... and with the one of the lancer, i think it would be cool to see just a bit of the left side along with the rear end of it.

Re: could you guys critique the photos of my car?

For Rally Sport 92:
Picture #1: The distance is fine, really feeds into the Jeep's purpose. However, the ground is pretty ugly compared to the sky, so try taking the picture from a lower angle so we get more sky (which also looks good against the Jeep's dark blue paint!) Wide open clear sky, off road Jeep...it's the stuff commercials are made of.

Picture #2: I absolutely love it. However, I'm thinking maybe turning the wheel a bit left would be a little more dramatic....

Picture #3: Maybe should have been taken from the other side of the car, where you can't see the dumpsters or whatever in the background...And I'm really not a big fan of an asymmetrical split, maybe if it was more centralized...I dunno. Good background though, other than the dumpsters. Hmm, maybe if you'd gotten just a hint of the driver's side of the car in there...?

Picture #4: Either take a few steps back from the Lancer, move it forward, or bring the Jeep a little closer...the difference in size is a little overwhelming. And either dust off the back of the car, or make sure the dust is even; that spot above the L-A-N where it's been wiped of is a little distracting.

Yeah, the dust pissed me off but I couldnt wash the damn car because my brother wouldnt let me until we got to California (BTW if you dont know we were traveling from Texas to Cali, so alot of dust picked up there) About the dumpster, what you so call it it's a little house thing that's pretty big but it's just how far it was.

as others have said try to find a more suitable / less cluttered background. Also try different angles (off of the horizontal) some of the better shots I have taken have been with the camera almost on the ground.

Wow I love those GT-R's

Here's one I took of my car, I don't have a professional camera so it came out a bit blurry.
