drivers door won't unlock

I got in and shut the door as usual, no extra force or other weird noises and when I tried to get out, drivers door won't unlock at all. I have a 1998 sport explorer and the passenger door and hatch work just fine. I've tried to pull up on the lock, the key and and inside door handle, with and without the battery hooked up and nothing works. I don't know what the best way is to get the door opened without causing damage to the door or structure.

You should be able to take off the inside door panel without the door being open (I've done it in the back seat of my 92 explorer). Then you can try and unlock it manually and find the problem.
