94 Regal Power Locks Short

Hi all,

Very strange thing that seems to only happen when the car has been in over a 100 F (every afternoon here now in summertime).

In the morning or evening when it's still not too hot outside, when using the remote or the switches on the doors, all works fine.

In the afternoon when the interior of the car gets real hot (120 F +) and use the remote or the door switches, the door fuse immediately blows. This also takes out the electrical antenna and the chimer plus the electric rear mirrors. Replacing the fuse makes antenna, chimer and mirrors work again, but hitting a door lock knob blows the fuse again.

In the evening when it gets cooler, replacing te fuse and playing with the door switches works like a charm again, so this phenomenon seems to be heat related, but why would it blow the fuse ?

I tried replacing the 10Amp door fuse with a 20Amp and although that fuse doesn't blow, the door switches still won't work though !!!!!

Thanks for reading and any help offered.
Roy

Removed the keyless receiver (pain in the a** to get to it) and checked it out, no bad contacts or bad soldering points. Seeing where it is positioned (at the rear window under carpet, in a black plastic box) it's easy to understand that the temperature of the receiver in the sun here gets easily over 130 F (60+ C). In the summer, we get 110 F in the shade every day (Southern California, Desert).

The electronics in the box are just cooking above the working temp limit and it somehow blows the fuse. I put styrofoam in between the box and the carpet, closed everything up and put a folded newspaper on top of the carpet just over it to further help from heating up and it seems to do the job. No more fuse blows and it keeps on working.
