Question I Need Wiring Info for 2005 Factory GM Radio

I have a plug and play FM transmitter Sirius Radio I want to put in my '05 Z71. It has XM but I prefer the Sirius, and until I get the cash saved for my Eclipse AVN, the FM transmitter is all I've got.

My question is which wire is the remote wire (the one that only supplies 12V when the car is on)? I found the constant power wire, but none of the other wires had power when the car was on. The factory radio is the Single CD/Cassette/XM model. I have Bose speakers but there is no bose or RDS badging on the radio.

In my previous truck I used a circuit tester to find the remote wire, T-tapped it and ran it to a relay so that the satellite would only come on when the radio was on. I know I could just tap off of something else tied to the ignition, but the radio still plays until the doors open after the key is turned off. If I dont tie into the radio power itself, then the satellite cuts out before the radio and I get static - no real problem but a major pain.

some of the new gm radio's dont have a ACC or IGN power in the radio. you can just pull the lower dash off and tap power in there. if it has a wire behind the radio. it will be right by the power. it will most likely be green or yellow. but under the dash you can use orange or brown. they are ACC and pink is IGN. under the dash they will all be 10 gauge wires coming from the key solenoid. hope this helps.

Re: I Need Wiring Info for 2005 Factory GM Radio

There is a wire next to the constant power wire that is the same color (yellow), but smaller gauge. It doesn't light up with the circuit tester when the car is on, though. Could this be the remote wire anyway? I don't think it is a speaker wire b/c there are two groups of four wires together on the other end of the harness. If I tap it just to try it and it doens't work, is there any harm in leaving the empty tap on the wire or should I cut and resplice the wire?

Why not use one of the pinch on ends that leaves the wire together and then the blade fits into the end of the pinch casing? No soldering or splicing. If you take the blade(new wire) out there is no exposed connection. Just my , hope it works.

Re: I Need Wiring Info for 2005 Factory GM Radio

Those are the kind of t-taps that I have. I tried it and it didn't work though. I guess instead of a separate 12v power wire, the truck controls the power to the radio through the computer somehow. I'll just wire the sirius into the ignition and put up with the static when I shut the truck off. Maybe it will annoy me just enough to save up for the eclipse nav unit even faster. Thanks for your help though.
