ghetto nitrous

ok guys im a cheap bastard and i like to be creative so heres my plan, fugiot i want you to help me out with this. Ive been thinking that since i put a cold air intake on my car id like to squeeze a little more power out of that particular mod. Im thinking about doing a ghetto nos system where you inject high percentage oxygen into the intake tube itself. you wouldnt need any nos tuning because the MAF sensor should adjust to the elevated O2 levels right? i have the solenoid and switches and stuff im just wondering if this will work or simply fry my MAF sensor. if this works i would have a very simple power booster for like 100 bucks counting the O2 tank and fills. I am prepared to be flamed for this.

it sounded good to me @ first, but now that i think about it, u could do some damage to your engine. The MAF sensor thinks that the O2 is comin in a lot more, so you'd get more power, but what happens when your engine is running a lot harder and isn't gettin enough cooling? I personally wouldn't do it, but i'd try first on a lawn mower lol.

Re: ghetto nitrous

have you heard the radiator fans on a spec v? they sound like a helicopter, cooling wont be a factor, i just dont want my MAF sensor to end up like a communique in mission impossible and self destruct...lawn mowers dont have MAF sensors, but you can spray ether into a go-kart engine for a little extra boost......

Re: ghetto nitrous

I am not sure how a MAF sensor works, so I could be wrong. I thought all it did was check air flow. Not the O2 percentage in the air. That would be a bit more than the simple car computer would be set to do I think. And if it did, I doubt it woud be able to check it for more than a few percentage points one way or the other. Going from 20 percent O2 to say 40 is probably out of its ability.

Re: ghetto nitrous

teh maf sensor checks the amount of O2 in the air and adjusts the fuel imput to balance the air fuel ratio, if you add O2 the maf sensor will tell the injectors to add fuel because its job is to maintian the proper air fuel ratio

Re: ghetto nitrous

ummm sort of good in theory but not practical
the MAF sensor does what its name suggests:measures the MASS of the air, not the O2 content.

also, oxygen is extremely volatile (pure o2 is MUCH more explosive than gasoline) and you need to be VERY precise with how much you add or else you will blow up your car
