Roof rack screws

I have a 1998 Venture, and have read here about water leaking through the roof rack screws and running down the pillar and soaking the drivers side carpet. I am almost positive that I have this problem but when I go to remove the screws from the rack they just keep turning like the are stripped. I have only been able to get about 3 screws out Any suggestions?? Thanks

Well, I have the same problem. I have the GM Service Manual and checked: GM used Rivetnuts in the roof, the originals are hexagon shaped. The only way to remove the is to drill the heads off the bolts, remove the luggage rack, drill a 10mm hole through the center of the old Rivetnut and replace them with new, larger diameter nuts. The bad part is, you will need a special tool to compress the Rivetnuts. The nuts are M6. I didn't do mine, yet, since I don't have the time on my hand right now, but I plan to buy some Self Sealing Rivenuts, a tool & some stainless bolts from McMaster-Carr, I'll go with 1/4-20 threah size though.
Good luck.
