Question Gas gauge, speedometer, odometer dead!

Hi ... Yesterday my 1996 Grand Caravan Se gave me a surprise when I turned on the car. None of the dash panel indicators are working. The speedometer stays at zero while I"m driving. The gas gauge is stuck where it was before I drove and filled up the tank.

The gear indicators are gone too; so I don't see which gear I'm in.

My A/C has been going on/off for two summers now. Sometimes it works on low, sometimes on high, sometimes not at all, sometimes it's just fine.

My husband checked the fuses and thought they were ok; but he doesn't really work on my car.

I was hoping for any/all suggestions before taking it to get fixed somewhere.

Thanks,
Kathy

Open your hood and look for the fuse and relay center just above the battery . open the cover and look for a fuse called IOD usually towards the top of the block , they are labeled . Remove the IOD fuse for 20 seconds and then reinsert . The BCM becomes hung and this will reset it in a lot of cases . Let us know how it works out .

I was suprised with my 2000 that when the rear wiper motor blew a fuse the gauges all went dead the odometer stopped but it still ran just fine. Wish i had known that before my mileage exceded the warranty lol. But what supprises me is that after owning this for 2 years i just found out the EATX SHUTDOWN RELAY IS NOT IN RELAY CENTER?

That would be my guess the input speed sensor , not sure where it is without looking in the manual though . This seems to be a common problem on the wonderful 4 speeds .

Re: Gas gauge, speedometer, odometer dead!

I removed the EATX fuse by accident. Now I have the same problem as described above. But it didn't work after I remove the IOD fuse and put it back. Is there any trick for it? Now my 96 Caravan works only in the first gear, no gear indicator and Check engine always on. Please heeelp me.

I have a 2001 voyager. One time, I was at a gas station, and I had just topped off the tank. I went to reset the trip Odemeter, at the exact moment I had just started driving forward. Somehow, the Spedometer needle got of the wrong side of the stop at zero MPH!. I had a Speedometer stuck at zero, and I couldn't do a thing. Magically, it fixed itself

Re: Gas gauge, speedometer, odometer dead!

I am having the same problem with my 91 voyager. None of my gauges are working and the check gauge light is on, I've changed the fuse for the gauges in the fuse box on the drivers side. Sometimes the "dummy" lights go a little haywire but other than that the gauges are my only problem. Where would the IOD fuse be located on my van? I can't find a fuse box under the hood anywhere.

Re: Gas gauge, speedometer, odometer dead!

I couldn't find the IOD fuse (1992 Voyager) so I just disconnected the battery and that worked. Just had to re-boot, I guess. Symptom: Check Gages light on, temperature and fuel gauges dead, speedometer dead, instrument panel light dead, electric door locks unlock but don't lock (I found the connection between gauges and door locks in another blog as well). Thank you guys! It's great to actually find solutions! I'm putting this on Wiki Answers too, only questions there.

Re: Gas gauge, speedometer, odometer dead!

My 92 voyager had same problem. Check gauges light was lit and speedo, fuel and water temp gauges were not working. Dash lights were out and intermittant wipers were not functioning. I disconnected the negative cable to the battery for 20 minutes. Now all is well again. Seems that there was a static charge build up on the body control module. Disconnecting the battery allowed that static to discharge.
