Polyurethane Motor Mounts OR inserts???

So far I've replace my stock upper (top-side) mounts for a pair of stock ones...everything was good until I got my act 2100 installed...I got a call from my mechanic saying that I needed to change the bottom pair of mounts, he wanted to charge me about $100 for a pair of stock mounts + $60 labor...So I though about it and decieded to wait a little bit and get either Polyurethane Motor Mounts OR inserts......Inserts seem so much cheaper, but are Polyurethane Motor Mounts any better?.....if I go with inserts I will be doing only the bottom/rear/ ones, not the top because I dont want my daily driver to rattle that much...I read that in order to get your inserts done, your stock mounts MUST be intact.....do this mean that the rubber MUST be intact?, or the mount itself MUST be intact (not cracked)?...any help/advice/tip is welcome.......thanks

Re: Polyurethane Motor Mounts OR inserts???

i dont know much about the inserts. all i know is what you allready do. that the pollyurithain mounts vibrate more then stock mounts but will help wheel hop significantly.

Re: Polyurethane Motor Mounts OR inserts???

You can only get the front and rear mounts as inserts on a 2g. The side mounts will be the full replacements. On a 1g on the other hand, the two side mounts and the rear mount are full replacements, only the front is an insert.

The front and rear inserts did most of the work on my car. I went to the sides later on and they do help. With the car back to stock you couldnt even tell I had a full set of mounts done. The 91 rattles like a little bitch though...

Re: Polyurethane Motor Mounts OR inserts???

I love my vibratiion in the car it feels like its got some balls. If i were you id have them all done. Motor mounts are the same as the inserts, you dont really need the actual mount, unless its like cracked or something. All you need is the inserts. Search on my name and youll find a thread with all this info and more. Good luck!

Re: Polyurethane Motor Mounts OR inserts???

Its a matter of terminology. I tend to call the molded/shaped pieces inserts, since they insert into the stock rubber (front/rear on 2g). You could also call the full replacement an insert since it is inserted into the mount casting (sides on 2g). Either way, you can't buy the actual mount (aluminum part) anywhere but the dealer. Confusing...

thanks for the info....are Ebay inserts reliable enough?...or should I look somewhere else?...How can I get rid off the rubber if no shop will do it for me?....I read that burning it helps, but some rubber is always left on the sides or edges which makes the insert very hard to fit, plus inserts are kind of big already and are hard to fit in the montain....

Re: Polyurethane Motor Mounts OR inserts???

After you get all the rubber out you still have to get the steel sleeve out. Its thin, but its enough to make installing the new pieces a pain in the ass. There is a thread about this that was posted maybe 2 weeks ago. I had my machinist press them out for 10 bucks, but not everyone has a shop closeby. Any machine shop at all should be able to do it.
