oil on spark plugs

i noticed when taking out the spark plugs that they were covered in oil , and when i removed them the oil ran into the cylinders . . . i assume the valve cover gasket is shot , is this correct or could it be something else ? ? ? ?
also i need a new a/c compressor any idea's ? ? ? ? for a 92 sl2 autotranny r134a . . .
thanks bob

Re: oil on spark plugs

I agree that it is likely the valve cover gasket, a fairly common problem. I've got nothing on the A/C

valve cover gasket

the 92 came with R-12, you could get a R-12 compressor and keep R-12 or retrofit or get a R-134a compressor and retrofit.

definetly valve cover gasket.. pretty easy to fix.
If you need to change the compressor THIS would be the time to get an r134a one, new accumulator and fittings, In the long run you'll be much better off,

Phil

Re: oil on spark plugs

Listen to the valve cover advice. I had trouble believing mine was the source of the leak but it was. It had hardened and was brittle from the heat. The new one was soft and pliable and it hasn't leaked a drop since. It is an easy repair just be careful to tighten the bolts evenly and do not overtighten.
