Question Any general tips for better running engine?

Hi guys, this is my first post in the forum.

I've got a 95 concorde, with the 3.5L in it, and just over 206K miles in it. My particular concorde has been extremely reliable engine-wise (although everything else has broken down of course ), the engine has never ever been torn apart or removed from the car at all.

Anyways, from reading this forum, I've read a few ways to improve an old engine. (Such as cleaning the EGR thingy, getting new vacuum hoses, etc.)

I was thinking if some of you could list out things for all of us concorde owners that you have done to your concorde that improved engine idle and stuff like that that will make it run better. A list like that in one thread would be very convenient to print out and take out to the garage.

Thanks

Give it a tune up along with new tapet cover seals. Get a high performance air cleaner with tub. I personally am going with a double intake air cleaner unit... maybe 2 turbos on that. I also customized the exhaust... my concorde gets about 25mpg city and A LOTmpg hwy!!

my exhaust... took the cats off and placed 2 cherry bombs where those used to be. Ran sr8 pipes out to the sides. Lol.... little better pickup with that. New found on road dead rustangs are nothin.

I also picked up a resistor for my egr, noticed a bit better pick up. No change in running or mpg. Seems to shift quicker.

Try motor honey in your oil, good for older cars and high milage. I still run full synthetic though my concorde... it loves that stuff!! You might wanna run valvoline max life through yours though... I never put cheap crap in my cars. I also add octane booster along with premium fuel. Hey... compared to my pontiac, I still pay less in a week for premium fuel in the concorde!! My pontiac take regular too!!

I changed the inner tie rod bushings. When i took of the intake pipes i noticed an insert in the pipe going from the air box containing the filter to the plenum on hte back that connects to the throttle bodies. Can this be taken out? I'm sure that would go hand in hand with a K&N filter change.

im thinking of doing a 300m exhuast upgrade for my 99 conny. runs okay but its pinging a little. I would buy a good tank of premmy but I am not paying that kind of money.

Yes that cone shaped device you see in that tubeing is a silencer, it dampens the intake noise during WOT so the engine sounds "quieter" and it will snap out of the tubing. It will make the intake noisier when you get on the throttle and does seem to make the car pull harder in the upper RPM's. That and the K&N Filter swap should help a bit.

Re: Any general tips for better running engine?

I ended up doing a K&N filter with the stock airbox, and 2 3/4 in exhaust to the muffler. Single inlet, dual outlet Flowmaster 40 series muffler, then 2 3/4 in duals to the back with chrome tips slightly pointed down. Very nice looking. This is on a 00 Concorde LXi.
