Throttle body screen
1999 GTP---- so i decided to take off my throttle body and clean it all up from the past 92,000 miles of carbed up crap that was in it, so i took it off, and made it look like new.... i saw in someones mod list somewhere that they took out the throttle body screen... so i decided to take it out, what exactly does it do for the car if you take it out? does it just increase air flow? well after i put it all together and started my car, my service engine soon light came on, can that happen b/c i took that little screen out?

Removing the throttle body screen wll probably increase air flow but not without possible side effects such a rough idle or SES light. Its purpose is to channel and smooth the airflow to the MAF sensor. You may have a MAF sensor DTC error code triggering the SES light. Also you have to be careful cleaning the throttle body specifically the type of cleaner used. If it gets on the MAF sensor wire element it could damage it. The MAF sensor should only be cleaned with electronics cleaner. Get it odb-ii scanned and see what the error is. Try putting the screen back and run it through a drive cycle and see if SES goes off. ![]() Thrasher CAI, DHP v1.0 PCM, 3.25 SC pulley, CAIT GMAF, Hi-Flow CAT, u-bend delete, 160 TS, TB spacer, MSD 8.5mm wires, Autolite 104 Spark Plugs, Goodyear Gatorback Serp. & SC Belt, Nitto NT555R Drag Radials

ZZPerformance FREE MOD: Throttle Body Screen Removal The stock Throttle Body can be restrictive even on a stock engine. The factory installs a screen in the inlet of the Throttle Body to straighten the air as it travels into the MAF sensor. This provides a smoother idle and more consistent fuel delivery. For Maximum performance this screen is disruption in the airflow that can be removed with little or *no adverse effects. On the flow bench we have realized a 10-15% increase in airflow by removing the screen. *Little or no adverse effects??...... just a SES light. ![]() BTW - Removing the throttle body screen is no mod. Its a joke. ![]() Thrasher CAI, DHP v1.0 PCM, 3.25 SC pulley, CAIT GMAF, Hi-Flow CAT, u-bend delete, 160 TS, TB spacer, MSD 8.5mm wires, Autolite 104 Spark Plugs, Goodyear Gatorback Serp. & SC Belt, Nitto NT555R Drag Radials

Re: Throttle body screen
it increases airflow, if you can do it without having the above problems go for it. i know many people, including my self, who are very happy without it. It is a very slight performance enhancement, but it is free, so ill take it.
