making my gt into a monster

Hey got a ? for you guys i have figured out what i am going to do. when i went to the ford swap meet i saw a 04 corba motor and tranny brand new for 7 grand. so what i am thinking is getting the motor and droping it into my 96 gt with the tranny. i really want a 04 cobra but sense i am 17 and will be 18 when this happens (next swap meet is in april) i wont have 28 grand to buy one. so i was wonding what all do i need and how much total is this going to cost me. I know ill need basicly a cobras fuel system. The wiring harness? and pry a diff driveshaft? what else do i need? can someone tell me all the parts i am going to need to able to get it hooked up and running. also will my axles and diff. be able to handle the 390 hp which ill pry buy a pulley 2.80 or 2.73 and run 15 psi or higher of boost so itll be more like 473 (numbers that i see is common with 2.80). also how much is porting a eaton blower cost (was told that 15 psi is about the max of a eaton but if u port and polish it that u can run more. This will give those z/28's a suspise when they mess with me (messed with alot they know there faster then my slow 96 gt)

Re: making my gt into a monster

to get that power all i need to do is buy pi ported and polished heads )partiot stage 2 or 3 then buy a xtreme energy camshaft a bullit intake long tubes and x pipe and ill pry be there but thats not what i want. i wanna go FI and i could with my car but only to what 400 to 450 hp and it could break anytime but if i went to a cobra motor i could run 500 600 700 hp no problem (engine) plus ill have 4v heads and they will flow better then a 2v ported and polished. ill have a 6 speed tranny also so i can run 3.73 or 4.10 but still have the 6th gear to get good gas milage. also 320 hp would make be comparable to a ss camaro or ws6. this whole project is to be able to own camaros and vettes and what ever else comes in the way. i mean there will always be something faster out there but i hate being in the back of the pack of proformance cars. plus when i can save 4500 dollers after i do this swap i can buy a kenne bell and run 22 lbs of boost hehe and make the camaro owners go from to

well if u plan to keep up with vettes then u will have to rebuilt ur whole car and i think that will be a more expencive then just buying a cobra

Re: Re: making my gt into a monster

Neatofrio has positively no clue what he's talking about (remember that Cobra that SVT sent to a lot of magazines for testing? Stock 03 + exhaust + fuel system + whipple + cams, some lowering springs, not much else and it made 600 RWHP and they said it made a great street car. But what do they know, they only drove it) so just ignore whatever else he says.

And honestly, don't try an 03 swap right now. Maybe do some PI heads or a 96-98, 99/01 cobra motor swap, but the last thing you need is 550+ horsepower. Yeah, I sound like you mother. And yeah, you're probably not mature enough at this point to handle a car that fast if the only thing you can think about is racing every Z28 and Vette that comes your way. 450 RWHP will put you sideways on the freeway in a hurry if you don't know what you're doing.

Re: making my gt into a monster

yeah i completly understand what ur saying and i know i am not a very skilled driver. i mean i can recover from a slide (dad made me practice alot) and i can launch ok i mean i am not a pro or a good driver but i respect the power of a car. i have learned the hard way. i put my car into a spin on the highway at 70 mph and spun acrossed 4 lanes and down one side of the median and up the other side. i an extremly lucky to be alive and from this i have learned to respect power greatly. my dad and i have been looking for a project and been decideding what we wanna do and he likes this idea and thinks it will be a good bonding type thing (preverts get ur mind out of the guter) i have a car ill drive in the winter and rain so i wont damage or get my self into tourble. and the only reason i believe i can handle is i respect the car and its power. the hanging with the camaros is only part of it. i want to have something not many ppl do something original something of my idea and who knows mybe one day itll be in a magazine. plan to paint it with a tibute to 9 11. in the furture after its a beast. i would pry run 11-13 lbs on the street and work my way up to 20 something on the strip this is a multi yr project and a learning experance. sry if i gave u the idea all i wanted was a fast car i want a fast beautiful car thats origanal can be in a mag one day and is something i spend yrs playing with learning from. i wouldnt drive the car right away with all that boost i know i could get my self into touble i would drive it with stock for pry 6 to 8 months to learn what i can and can not do when it gets scrimey etc then turn it up learn and then after awhile turn it up u see what i mean???? i plan on joining the scca and going to the strip alot to practice and learn.

Re: making my gt into a monster

i didnt say it wouldent be a street car i just said he would have to rebuilt a lot of it to handle that much power like when they built drag cars.not that he would have to have a 6 point roll cage and all that.and they have kits for like $900 that they say will make it as fast as a corvette

neato what he was saying is that mybe you don know alot about the cobras and the swap. i wouldnt have to rebuild my car i just have to change parts to make sure it fit and bolted up. u made it sound like i had to rebuild the whole car.

Re: making my gt into a monster

It is possible its essentially the same car and your rear would likely be better suited for handling the power than the cobras IRS. Like boosted said though I wouldn't recomend doing it though. There are always more parts in there than you expected and the price would add quickly. It certainly would be a fast car though.

Re: making my gt into a monster

i think its a pretty good idea, i also think your rear end should be fine. but just remember when doing swaps like that unexpected things always happen. period. unless you doing this turbo installation im doin right now... went unbelievably smooth.

Re: making my gt into a monster

thats really good stang00 glad things went smooth. i have always had plans of going turbo with my car but i think the cobra motor swap would be a more reliable addition to my car. also my engine is making tinking sounds and burns a quart of oil every 600 to 1000 miles so boosting it would pry send it to a grave. that y i am also considering the swap.
i would need the engine and trans
fuel system
ignition system and controler (thinking F.A.S.T.)
crossmember
pry a small cowl hood or something with more calenace for the blower
wiring harness.
i been trying to find my mm&ff mag that had the v6 swap to a corba and cant find it so i really dont know all the parts i need. i am in the process and research and pricing and making a list so i can get down to the task its pry going to be pieaced together as in buying the supporting parts everymonth and then when april come buying the motor.
