Re: 1987 caprice fuse problem
You've got a short somewhere... I'd check behind the radio to start, and follow the wires, but it could be anywhere.

check the cigarette lighter. I had the same problem and unhooked the cigarette lighter and the fuse stopped blowing.

Re: 1987 caprice fuse problem
Do you have illuminated vanity mirrors on your sun visors?? The orange wire rubs through at the pivot of the sun visor. This is on the same circuit as your courtesy lamps. If I remember correctly, the cigarette lighter is on the same circuit as the courtesy lamps. Unplug the connector on the back of the lighter. See if the fuse still blows. There may be a coin down in the lighter socket also. I would investigate the stuff that gets used the most. i.e.: all the stuff the driver would come into contact with on a regular basis, cig. lighter sun visors ect. If the cig. lighter is not the culprit, and you have the illuminated visor vanity mirrors, try removing the visor from the roof (one at a time). Start with the driver visor. Then see if the fuse still blows.
Hope this helps. Let us know how you make out. Jim S. |

Is your car an old 9C1?
Is it possible that some of the old police wiring is giving you fits?
