Recommend me some brake pads....

For my 2001 Grand Am GT.

Links if you have them would be great as well.

I would go with GM pads, but they are WAY too much.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Recommend me some brake pads....

There are many good pads on the market today. For regular street performance Raybestos pads are very good so are Performance Friction carbon Metallics. There are ceramic pads available for your car for high performance use as well. You can find most of these pads at Advance Autoparts, Autozone, Tirerack.com, Andysautosport.com and many others.

Okay, thanks.

That I already knew though.

I was more wondering if anyone has any specific experiences with any brands. Good or bad.

Re: Recommend me some brake pads....

I have had both the Performance Friction and the Raybestos. Both work equally well and wear very well. The PFCM's seem to seat quickly and give good stopping power. I don't like pads from Advance Auto Parts at least not their brand. I have gone through several sets of these and have worn each set out within 12K miles even though they say lifetime. Finally bit the bullet and bought a better quality pad and got much better wear without all the dust. I really don't have any experience with the ceramic pads.

From what I know about ceramic pads (mountain bike experience, but my downhill bike has better brakes than most cars, go figure....) if you go with the ceramic pad you need special rotors to go with them, otherwise they heat up, crack and fall apart rather quickly. I prefer Raybestos myself on the car, they seem to work quite well given the weather extremes we have in new england. My only complaint about them is when they are wet they don't grab immediately in the front, but the rears do.
