front end squeaks

Hello
I have this irritating front end squeak when driving and hitting small bumps in the road or whenever I put on the brakes hard enough to make the front end do a nose dive. I have oiled all the bushings and still there is the squeak. I have had the blazer sitting on level ground and grabbing the driver side front fender rocked it back and forth and I get the sound. Again I have greased everything except the ball joints any suggestions on what it could be and what to look for? I know Blazers are notorious for squeaks.

Re: front end squeaks

yes. I was trained in the United States Marine Corp for Motor transportation I have an ase certification. This has just stumped me and seeing this was a blazer forum I thought that I might ask to see if others have had the same problem before I start replacing everything. Now I am thinking that it is the lower ball joint. But I am not 100% sure at the moment. I am having a friend come over and watch for movement when I lift the blazer and check it. I am sure you know the method so I will not go into detail. Btw you do have a nice blazer and no not bad for installing it all yourself. Might I suggest you lift it slightly to give it a more rugged stance. Nothing to make it look like it was built for rock crawling but just to toughen up the look. My blazer is the square body in comparisson to yours and it looks 100% different once I put on a 3 inch lift.

No , you have said you have greased everything except the balljoints.

Grease the balljoints and see if it goes away.

They are part of the 11 grease fittings within the front end.

Just for info, I had the same problem and it turned out to be the upper spring insulator (rubber ring on spring ends) there are two, upper and lower. $7 per at dealer

He has a 4x4, we don't have springs, we have torsion bars.

I had the same problem with my 2001 Blazer. Took it to my local shop and had the ball joints replaced. The mechanic said Blazers are notorious for this problem, he sees some being replaced within 2 years again. He replaced them with Moog ball joints.

Re: front end squeaks

Did you try looking at your upper control arm bushings. I have a 1994 Blazer that had the same noise. I looked over the whole front end and couldn't fine anything wrong. Everything had been replaced before all with in the last year due to age and deterioration. The only thing I didn't change was the upper control arm bushings. I saw just a little cracking on the edges, but nothing major. Anyway I went ahead and replaced them. $35 later. Squeaky FREE!!!!!!!!
