94 Aerstar distributor failure

I was pulling an empty trailer with my 94 Aerostar when I suddenly lost the engine and the Check Engine light came on.
When I did diagnostics on the coil, and other ignition components, they were all good, but I was still getting no spark.
One of the steps is to finally check the distributor for rotation. There is NONE. What are the possible causes? The engine turns over as if no compression. I fear the worst, but is it?
Thanks a lot.

Maybe the timing chain broke. I don't think the 3.0 is an interference engine.. in which case, you just replace the chain and everything is fine again. I don't know about the 4.0 engine however.
