I have a 1999 New Beetle GL. It is a 2.0 AEG gas powered engine. I love this thing to death but there is something wrong with the airconditioner. When I first start out the compressor kicks in and the air is cool. But after a while the compressor kicks off and and it starts to heat up in the passenger compartment. The ac button light is still on when this happens. I have tried to turn the switch on and off but the compressor doesn't come back on. The radiator is full, right below the max on the resivoir. I have also checked the pressure in the low-side charging port and it is good. I was thinking it might be a relay but ifit is I don't know which relay to change out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found out what seemed to be wrong with my air conditioner. Under the hood there is that fuse box over the battery. I have read that a few people have had this same problem and they said it was this fuse box. What happen is that instead of the fuse shorting out, it melts into the fuse box. This is why it sometimes came on because it is still connected. The fuse that has to deal with the a/c is the one to the far left, but I changed them all just to be safe. I drove it around last night for a good 30 min's and the a/c hasn't went off yet... still crossing my fingers. String a reply if this helped you!

What is the pressure on the low side? Should be 30-40.

Thanks for replying. I checked the pressure and it was aout 33*F. Now the fuse box over the battery has gone out since I changed the fuse. It almost caught fire. Is there a recall for this? There should be!
