Good resources for finding _legalized_ Skylines for sale?
What are some good resources to check for fully legalized / Motorex Skylines for sale? Are there certain boards or classifieds where the owners typically post? I'm just wondering what sites etc. I should add to my routine check and watch until one pops up. I haven't seen any in the past few issues of DuPont Registry, and you can't search the online automotive classifieds for a Skyline.

Re: Good resources for finding _legalized_ Skylines for sale?
It won't be easy finding a legalized car. The Skyline community is relatively small and on top of that, not many people are about to let their cars go.
There are a few owners here, although it can be hard to tell who is telling the truth and who is posing. You can also try the Freshalloy forums. There's a few owners there too.

Fonz87 sorry to tell you but you are a total moron for saying that a skyline can run for up to $400,000 dollars which is ridiculous. They are expensive but not that outrageous. Im sorry but you dont what you are talking about.

Re: Good resources for finding _legalized_ Skylines for sale?
Fonz87... What the Hell are you talking about?
![]() Skyline is by no means a Super Car... It's an Inline 6 Twin Turbo, cars of the same caliper can be found for much cheaper, that are already in the states. For prime example, Zed32, JZA80, FD3S (With a bit of tuning), VR-4 etc. Your price break down is horribly wrong... Prices for Skylines range from BNR32-BNR34 from about $15,000-$60,000 pending on condition, modifications, etc. MotoRex charged around $16,000 for legalization (Before they got out of the business). Figure about another $2,000 for exportation fees, shipping, importation fees, deregistration from Japan, etc. And you can see how it doesn't equate to $400,000 ![]() I've seen Legalized BNR32's going for as cheap as $18,500... I've also seen Legalized BNR34's go for as expensive as $75,000 (Before the OBDII compliance was forced) So just to let you know... It's not as expensive as you'd think. And a Skyline is by no means, a Super Car. -Wes

Re: Good resources for finding _legalized_ Skylines for sale?
The car is the cheapest part of the entire transaction... It's simply not worth it, in my opinion.
I'm still keeping my eyes open for an already MotoRex Legalized Skyline... But I know I'm going to end up wait until 2010. For the newbies in here... American has the 25year rule, which states that any car that is 25 years of age or older is eligable for importation without legalization. Meaning, that in 2014, 1989 cars will be eligable for importation. Godzilla, Zed32, FD3S, etc will be ready to come into the states. So what I'm doing is this... The absolute longest period of time that you can have a Skyline in the states for Race/Show use only is Five years (From what I was told by Michael Bernard, of Skylines America). So if I were to import the car for Race/Show in 2010, give myself a year cushion... The car will be legal a year before it has to be exported. Now I'm not sure of the exact technicalities of this plan... I'm still researching it. But chances are, I'll simply wait until 2014 when I know it's secure to import. But honestly, just wait guys. It will be MUCH cheaper in a few years. That's just my opinion on the topic. -Wes

The word "Kouki" means "newer" in motor vehicle trading in Japan.
For example, it is often noticiable that front view of car is different from "Zenki (older)" and "Kouki". Japanese manufacturers often improve its model by what they call "Minor Modification Change. (Just ask Japanese seller whether "Minor Change" has been done or not.) Well I am a Japanese and I have work experience of exporting cars from Japan. It seems that US government is giving difficulty on importing JDM cars. I am working on how to get Skyline cheaper here. I know some agents in Japan which offer me Skylines and other JDM cars with special price! |
