ok my wife has a 2000 accent that we've been having problems with for the last 6 months or so. first 6 months ago her check engine light came on and the code said something about a 02 sensor so we replaced it and code never went away then we took it to the dealer and they said it was due to her flex pipe being bent causing not enough airflow through the exhaust and they told us to replace it and clear the code and it would be fine, not the case we did and the code still was present. then out of the blue every morning when we would start it up the car would run for a second and shut off immediatly it would do this two or three times before running normal. then again out of the blue it started shifting weird and hard and when you would put it in park the car would start to idle high like around 2 grand or so. and i couldnt even get the car started the other day it took about 15 tries to get it running and i just got the codes read and it says p1128 air fuel meter and i have no clue what that means???????? any help im bout to junk the piece of crap

Re: 2000 accent runs like crap!!!!!!
Hi, My 2000 Hyundai also shows a p1128 code. I have been messing around with this for a year. I replaced the MAF sensor as a lot of the posts said. It worked for about 2 days and then the light came on. I have read replace the spark plugs, leads. I am waiting these parts arriving and will see if that works. According to the Hyundai Service book they suggest MAF sensor, Purge control Solenoid and Fuel pump. My car is getting worse with random misfires and pinging on the engine.
FYI Skilcal P.S The car ran with no problems until around 77K miles. Quote:

Re: 2000 accent runs like crap!!!!!!
I swapped out the O2 sensor before the cat. Engine light came back just like the cat in the hat. Reset a bunch of times. SOS. Drove 200 miles the other day and it went out. Drove 400 miles and it is back on. Took to Hyundai who told me they would diagnose and call me and have it fixed by the weekend. I dropped it off Thursday. Saturday morning at 8:05 (they open at 8:00) this guy puts the car up on the rack and tells me flex pipe is problem and he's going to only charge me $44 for wasting 3 days of my time when I could have had this fixed. Now I'm looking at a new flex pipe and I read your post. I can promise you this. I won't be buying another Hyundai. They last for the 5 years and the 60,000 miles and then fall apart. I have had mine 6 years. The last 2 years have been a nightmare and I have 86,000 miles on it. My mechanic won't even touch it and Hyundai service SUCKS!!!!! I've reached my limit with this piece of shit. I've had 6 years of waiting for the other shoe to drop. It has left me stranded on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and I was planning a trip next month. Does anyone want to buy a 6 year old Hyundai Accent w/86,000 on it and an Engine Light that could mean anything and will cost more money than just getting a new car to diagnose. Bottom line. After 6 years of ownership - DO NOT BUY A HYUNDAI!!!! They suck and the warranty is a gimmick. It works fine til 60,000 miles. Oh yeah. Try getting them to do the warranty work - or anything else other than try to sell you a car or some service shit that is irrelevent. Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me! I wish you the best with your car. Believe me I know how you feel and I was very happy with my car the first couple of years - not that they were trouble free. I maintained car SEVERE MAINTENANTCE REQUIREMENTS - I've replaced the friggin gas filter twice already FWIW. Car is a Money Pit. If you think you will save money buying a Hyundai I can tell you that my base accent has cost me $25,000 in costs over 6 years. My next car will be a certified Honda Civic. I forgot cardinal rule number one. If it seems too good to be true - it is!!!!!

Re: 2000 accent runs like crap!!!!!!
Hi, My 2000 Accent is now at 90000 miles. The check engine light has now been on & off for about 30k. I tried a reman maf sensor which worked for about a year and yes the light came back on during that time! Now I have just put the ols sensor back in. I look forward to the day the car dies and I can drive my 90 Camry with 180k with now problems :-) My way was been to ignore the light and not spend anymore money on it. I guess if it has gone 30k miles who cares :-)
