Post replacing Wheel bearing 1998 Chevrolet blazer 2WD

Do I need to replace the whole hub or can i somehow replace only the bearing rings that NAPA sold me. It's quite a cost difference as you all know.

Problem is that when removing the 3 bolts that is holding the hub assembly, the hub assembly doesn't come off. It's like its pressed on the steering knuckle. I have to change it real soon cause the wheel is quite loose on the axle.

Can anyone help with some advice and websites with pictures ??

thanks Ferdi

bearings can be replaced separately in a 2wd.

4x4 = have to replace the hub.

2x4 = you can replace the bearings themselves.

That's kinda what I thought, that you can replace the 2wd front bearings. Ferdi, I will be looking for your post... Thanks

98+ 2wd bearings are similar to the 4x4 bearings. They CAN'T be replaced seperatly. They are a sealed system. 97 and below are the cheaper simpler ones. (done a couple of these, not as much as a pain as the 4x4 because you're working with a spindle and not a knuckle)

That's what I thought.

I was told that I was wrong is this thread:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=381979
Now I don't know what to believe, there are two different views and both sides are positive that they are right. I'm still leaning towards them having to be replaced as an assembly. Normally when I'm in doubt, I listen to you or Wolfox, but you guys are on different sides of this one.

Will some one please put an end to this? And let's update all the old threads too, so that it doesn't come up again.

Re: replacing Wheel bearing 1998 Chevrolet blazer 2WD

From my investigation through the service manuals I have which cover up to 1999 and checking out the part assemblies options on ACDelco.com, it looks like you can find separate bearings if you want for 2wd vehicles there.

Part # S602 outer bearing

Part # S6 inner bearing

The separate parts are there to get so therfore they should be able to be repaired separate on 2WD models.

You can replace the whole hub if you want, but you do have the option to replace only certain bearings if need be.
