embarrassing alarms with 96

I know there's other threads about alarms but my situation may be different. My factory alarm goes off sparatically so we had an after market put in thinking they would disarm the factory, but no. Now I cannot use the aftermarket remote b/c the factory will set off which then makes the other go off. Very noisy and embarrassing! Taken it back to alarm installers twice w/o luck. We were told the manufacturer of the factory alarm says the 96-98 models can NOT be manually disarmed, they must be taken to dealer to hook to computer. Is this true? Looking for a cheaper way to deal with this...

Re: embarrassing alarms with 96

you can disarm the factory alarm by cutting and grounding out the purple wire w/ a yellow stripe behind the driver's side kick panel. That's what I've read in other threads. What I have had with mine is a bad door switch. It's VERY COMMON with our Grand Cherokee years. I would disconnect each one to see which one might be the bad one. Alot of the time its the drivers door one because of the opening and closing of the door the most.
