Question Child safety features making me crazy!!

Hi, I have a 1994 Olds 98,automatic. 190,000 miles. Am having one heck of a time getting the car to go into gear, the previous owners had same problem.Have tried all kinds of different ways, turning the wheel, making sure seat belts fastened, doors locked& unlocked, etc. The doors auto lock when it goes into gear.Sometimes it takes 15 mins or so to fight with it to get it into gear!! Is there something that can be disabled,(I have no children) or that could possibly be broken?ANy suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks and HAPPY 4th everybody!!

It sounds like you are saying the shift lever is moving but you can't get it into the drive position. If so you probably need a need a shift linkage adjustment. Any shop should be able to do this in a few minutes.
You might have a internal transmission problem but have the linkage checked first. Try not to force anything you could create more problems.
good luck
