I'm planning to change the fuel filter on my 92 Geo Convertible.
I have a Haynes manual but want to know if there's anything I should be aware of that isn't included in the manual? Should the tank be empty? If it has gas in it, will it drain when the hose is disconnected from the filter? Thanks |

Re: How to Change the Fuel Filter?
I think the hoses in and out are just rubber. You can pinch them off with clamps or visegrips to stop flow. Before removal.

Relieve the fuel system pressure. Pop out the fuel relay on the driver fender and start the car let it run out of fuel. Otherwise you'll have pressurized fuel spraying all over you. Not too bad a job as long as your bolts aren't rusted in.

the manual says it all very clearly how to do it, it's a snap, 5 min job at most.

I just did mine yesterday. It took about 15 minutes. Next time it will take just 5 minutes. Yes rust is a porblem. I broke the screw that holds the clamp that goes around the filter. Ended up using a thick plastick tie thing in place of the screw. Next time I am at the junk yard, I will have to find a another bracket.

Haven't changed it yet, but bought a fuel filter at Advance Auto. $25.
Does anybody know of anywhere it can be bought cheaper? Wal-mart didn't have it. |

$25 really isn't to bad. Locally, many stores around here wanted much more. I bought a wix on line and I think it was still $20. Just use what you bought.
