Overhaul Questions

I've got a (atm) stock 1965 Mustang. I'm planning on upgrading to this engine here;

With a mixture of a turbo and a small shot of nitrous, I'm looking to hit 600HP.

Along with a new Level10 transmission to handle it, a new driveshaft, and chassis subframe reinforcements, what else do I need to prevent engine damage?

Re: Overhaul Questions

you should get the one with forged pistons and rods because it's gonna need it for turbo. you will probably have to upgrade the fuel system and you'll need a carb because that one doesn't come with one, go for a big one because of the turbo. carbed turbo setups are pretty hard to setup so you might think about getting fuel injection, go for mpfi (multiple port fuel injection) as opposed to tbi(throttle body injection), it's better. you might want to go for a camshaft with less valve overlap, new heads with better flow, it'll help with the turbo and help you rev higher wich will help you get that 600hp. you could bore it out and then you'd need new pistons and you could get a stroker kit and then you'd need new con rods and you'd need to decrease compression so you dont detonate.
basically, you want to strengthen the engine, get some power adders, build up supporting systems, and take it to the dyno and see what your efforts have done.

I suggest you forget the turbo trick and go a Whipple supercharger kit with a 850 Dbl. pumper carb on top. For sure go the forged pistons if you plan on nitrous+ blown.

I was seriously considering fuel injection, but then arose the problem that the car (65 Mustang) probably cannot use EFI without installing a whole new computer, and because the computer won't be compatible with the existing system, I'd have to tear out all of the electrical components (mostly, anyway) and start over.

I have the book "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell, and it's got a chapter devoted to turboing carbed engines. I can do it

I'm a bit partial to turbos because of the efficiency and lack of parasitic HP loss (I know it makes up for it, and its minor, sshh :P)

I can lower the boost threshold (akwa lag) whenever I'd like. I'm going with a Holley/NOS nitrous system, with the progressive controller. Start off with a tiny shot to get the RPM's up to where the turbo can spool.

Thanks for the advice guys
