90 Firebird Won't Start
I was looking at a 90 Firebird the other day. Its selling for 700 Dollars. he guy selling it said it was a 3.1 5 speedbut it's not running. He took it to a shop and they said It was a security device stopping it from starting. It trys to start but doesnt really roll over. But it will start by spraying carb cleaner in the carb. Anyone have any Idea as to whats wrong. I want to buy it but not if its gonna be a hassle.

Re: 90 Firebird Won't Start
Sounds like a faulty fuel pump to me and thats a pretty huge job for one of those.

I had a similar problem on my 89. I thought it was the VATS system but I talked to a friend who worked at the dealership. He told me that if the VATS system were bad, not only would it not start but the car wouldn't even turn over. I double checked this with another dealership just to make sure, and got the same answer. However if you feel the need to replace the decoder, I checked and they are still available for a couple hundred dollars.
