Air only blows cool at idle?

Hey guys,

Now i dont know if this is just a problem that i experience cause i live on the surface of the sun, otherwise known as Phoeniz AZ but when i am driving my air is nice and cold, when i stop at a light or for anything else my engine is at idle, it only blow kind of cool. Just wanted to know what problem this might be or if its normal.

What year of blazer do you have and do you have R-134a freon for R-12 freon? If its 95 or newer it most likely has R-134a and if its 94 or older most likely it has R-12 unless it has been retrofitted. I have a 94 w/ R-12 and don't have that problem, and I am not sure on how Jimmy's are, but I know my parents had a 95 Lumina with the R-134a, and they had it checked out and there was nothing wrong with it, and we were told that the R-134a systems were known to only be cool when at idle. I am no mechanic, and know very little about A/C's myself though so I could be wrong on if thats the case with your Jimmy or not. The best I can say is call a shop that works on air conditionings and tell them the type of vehicle you have, the problem(or what you think may be a problem) and see what they think. Afterall most shops will kindly give information or opinions over the phone for free. Hope this helps.

thanks man, i will call the mechanic i bought the jimmy from, it was his daughters, so maybe he might cut me a deal if something is wrong with it. Appreciate the help!

It is normal, unless the compressor is cycling on and off rapidly. While stationary there is no wind blowing through the condenser to cool it off and while at idle the clutch fan isn't turning enough rpms to effectively cool it as well as driving down the road.

ok perfect, that is the answer i was looking for. Last thing i wanted was for there to be a problem with my air in the middle of summer when its 110 outside. Thanks Blazee
