89 Starting Problems

It's been a while since I've been on here. But my truck has been running awesome. Now I have a problem.

I went to start my truck after going into PepBoys and it won't start. The starter motor will engage, and spin, but it will NOT engage the transmission to turn the motor over. I have replaced the starter with a BRAND NEW one from autozone but it still does the same thing.

Any ideas??

Thanks in advance

I forgot to mention that I did get it to start twice, but it was wierd. It would engage the starter motor and spin for a while, but then it (starter) would get slower. It would get slower for about 3 seconds and then it would finally engage the motor. But now it won't even do that.

At first we thought starter, but I am kind of wondering if there is something wrong with the wiring, where it just isn't throwing enough power to the starter??

Re: 89 Starting Problems

Well, I got the new flex plate in and the bolts all torqued down. It still did the same thing. So we took the starter out and jumped it. The thing was FRIED!!!! The bendix was completely toast. That really ticked me off considering that it was BRAND NEW but it has a life-time warranty through autozone so I went back and got another one, put it in and now we are finally good. I got everything running great.

Hope this helps anyone who might have a similar problem.

Thanks for all the help.
