Unhappy New Timing Chain Tensioner noisy as Hell!

I use hope I can get a quick response to this thread. I just had a major water pump job done on my 98 2.4L DOHC engine. The water pump was put in first and it was initially assumed that the chain AND tensioner parts were both good. Turns out that( after the mechanic did a test drive) the timing chain and gears were fine, but the timing chain tensioner wouldn't spring back with the appropiate oil-driven pressure it's supposed to operate with. So the engine was retorn down again to replace the tensioners. I'm riding it back home and I hear this clacking noise bouncing off of cars I'm next to sounding simular to a dry oil case, but I know it's coming from the timing chain casing. BIG QUESTION: Is there such a thing as a BREAK-IN PERIOD or are the tensioners over-pressurized leading to a permanent noise condition? Will the noise go away eventually? I like a quiet engine which is exactly what I had prior to the work performed. I'll obviously be in contact with the mechanic after the July 4th holiday weekend, but this is killing me right about now. I sure hope that PATIENCE is a virtue with this neighbor-rattling clacking sound.

Re: New Timing Chain Tensioner noisy as Hell!

any updates here?

I am just finishing my water pump install and need to know hot to reset the tensioner so I do not run into these issues.

Mine is also the hydraulic one on a 96 2.4

thanks..
