Nitrous

I always hear people talk bad about nitrous and how bad it is for your engine but i also hear people saying that it dosnt hurt your engine at all if you use it right and not just sit there is use it all the time. But my question is dose nitrous kill your engine like everyone says it does? And if so dose it do more damage than a turbo charger or a supercharger would do?

Re: Nitrous

Yea of course it'll cause more wear and tear on your engine than if you didnt use it at all. But it'll do a whole lot less than a turbo or s/c.

Re: Nitrous

ya but you dont exactly slap on a turbo or S/C on a stock engine..youd have to take care of internals first..and youd have to create some sort of forced induction for it too...ya you can slap on a nitrous system to a stock engine and it wont do the same amount of damage as a turbo..the turbo is working ALL the time...and the nitrous is just for a burst..but its better if you up your engine to handle it...you wouldnt slap a turbo onto a stock engine..yes it can be done,,but its not wise...same goes for nitrous

Re: Nitrous

so ya its safe to install a nitrous system on a stock engine..it wont hurt it in a gradual way a turbo would on a stock engine..with the nitrous a rod could simply snap and come shooting thru the hood of the car..and trust me..ive seen it be done

Re: Nitrous

you ever wonder why car manufactureres dont put N02 on cars from the factory? But they will put a supercharger/ Turbo on it? N02 is alot worse for your engine than a supercharger. N02 burns hotter, it burns alot hotter. The Nitrogen cools the air, and releases the 02 into your engine. This 02 is what makes the power, it allows for the gas in there to burn much hotter and faster.

Only one car that i know of came from the factory with a Nitrous kit installed, i think it was the Roush Focus, but the bottle was disconnected and empty, as soon as you filled it and connected it, you warranty went out the window.

On a properly tuned car, nitrous is fine. But dont expect and engine to last to long if you just throw a bottle on it and go.

Re: Nitrous

the stock ecotec 2.2L systematically failed with stock internals ar 270hp (approximately). all 4 connecting rods went. now that was all at once, playing above 200hp on a stock block isnt too recommended. if you do 25% hp boost on nitrous what ive seen generally there is no damage to the engine. the stories you probly hear alot is people putting 150 shot in a stock civic for example.
