The Driver's side window of my 99 Ford Windstar SEL all of a sudden stopped working. It's a power window & was working one minute and then later on the same day stopped working. All other windows are working. Could this just be a fuse? Is there somehow I could fix this myself?
Thanks |

Re: Driver's side window not working
Could be...
The switch on the door panel...stuck open, won't close. Voltage not getting to that switch...wiring break to that switch Window motor circuit breaker tripped...many window motors have internal circuit breakers so if this window binds, it just trips this window and not all of them. Window is binding...hear any motor noise when switch depressed? The fuse and breaker is for this whole circuit, so if other windows work, then not this. My 98 requires removing door trim panel to get to the switch module. |

Thanks
Thank you for offering possibilities. How do I get the door trim panel off? Step by step instructions "for dummies" will be just fine with me.
There is no sound at all when I push the button down to lower it. Silence. |

Had simmilar problem with 99 Windstar. After reading several posts here, removed door panel, spray lubed track and taped motor with hammer lightly while pushing switch-worked without replacing $50+ motor.
Good luck |

Re: Driver's side window not working
The Haynes manual will spell out the door trim procedure. Get it at any auto parts store for ~$15...Autozone, Advance, Oreilly, Pep Boys. You can also find them on ebay...occasionally, I've gotten a great deal there...$6 shipped for a manual but the norm is $13-$14 shipped...not worth the wait.

Re: Driver's side window not working
I just rode in a friend's 99 Windstar LX...You just have to pry up the window switch/door lock module...The trim panel doesn't have to come off on his.

Great tips
Okay, I'll try just the top first to see if I can avoid having to take off the entire panel. I can't wait to get this fixed. You have no idea how many times I've pulled up to a drive thru of some kind fogetting that the window will not come down!!!

I pried the top panel where all of the buttons are to control the windows.
The driver's side door window when I press down on the button makes a click-click sound but the window does not move. None of the other 3 window switches make that sound. Any other ideas? Will be getting the Haynes manual in the next day or two. |

Re: Driver's side window not working
My 98 passenger window failed shortly after I bought it used, about 1.5 yrs ago. I bought a replacement motor from Autozone or something for 80ish dollars, if I recall correctly.
After I got the old one out, I tried giving it juice without any load and it worked. So I tried putting it back in, and it still worked. So I returned the new motor, and so far, it's still working. So basically, the random take it all apart, and put it all back together, is what fixed mine. Maybe a loose wire or jamed up linkage that I didn't notice when taking it apart. Now my rear passenger window is being flakey, but I'm not too worried about it. Here in AZ it's AC all the time anyway. |
