I have a 2001 Grand Am SE and it wont start. I checked the battery and yes, I have a full tank of gas. When you turn the key it tries to start but dont actually crank. Any help is appreciated.

Re: 01 car wont start

Does the starter engage and turn the engine over? If so you may have a fuel pump or ignition problem. If the starter does not engage then check the battery connections, clean the terminals and check the ground wire attachments. It could be a bad battery as well. It could also be the starter or starter solenoid. If the starter does turn the engine over then fuel pump may have gone bad. Check to see if you are getting fuel. You can do this by pushing the shrader fitting on the fuel rail, if you get fuel then the problem is probably not the fuel pump. If there is no fuel check the fuel pump relay in the power control center under the hood. They can go bad and cause problems. Otherwise you may need a new fuel pump. Check these things and if the car doesn't start post again and we can go from here.

I think it is a computer problem. I tried the 15 min reset and the car is working okay now. I called the dealership and they said it could have been a dirty key?! About a month ago I had the BCM and the ignition switch replaced.
