Premium fuel or boost leak

i just installed my HKS BOV yesterday. i bought a flange and recirculation kit as well. After i installed my BOV, my car kinda stalls or bogs, if thats what u call it at around 3000 to 3400 rpms when the throttle is half way or more then it goes back to normal pull. i use 87 (god imma get flammed for this) cause im kinda cheapo. and i kno the stock 2g BOV leaks so i was wondering because im boosting solidly now and i removed the BCS restrictor im prolly boosting around 14psi and maybe the 87 gas cant handle it or am i getting boost leak? will a 91 fix this?

Is it really worth not paying the extra $1 when you fill up your tank?

Try putting in 91 octane, and see what happens. If that dosn't help, try 93 for a tank. How long have you been running it on 87? Your car probably hates you.....

Re: Premium fuel or boost leak

My friend ran his 96 GS-T on 87 for ages. His car did stall at WOT (everything under the hood was stock), but it ran much smoother with 91.

It shouldnt be your BOV as you describe the problem, since the stalling usually happens when you ease off the throttle if your venting, not the other way round in my experience. And like you said, you got the recirculating kit, so your best bet is higher octane...lower octane ignites before the spark fires as temperatures exceed what the octane can handle without prematurely igniting, causing double detonation.

well i just got a good $30 full tank of 91 gas and i've been running my car for about 1-2 hours and it still stalls. i found out that it stall when my boost reach the top it stalls. For example the stock boost guage in my car, when its above 3/4 it starts stalling. everything below that runs smooth. should i try to reinstall my stock bov?

Re: Premium fuel or boost leak

If it happened right after the BOV installation, it's not going to be anything but that. If your MAS is plugged in, and you have no boost leaks (we can't check it for you), something is wrong. Tighten all you clamps. Did you install the BOV with an adapter on the stock plastic pipe?

Re: Premium fuel or boost leak

Could it be that your Hks bov is not installed tight enough or did you loosen some intercooler hoses? If that were the case then you should hear some hissing sound by listening to your engine while its on. Just make sure every clamp is on tight.
